      Glenwood Herald, August 23, 1917

Hans Evenson died at his home in Barsness on Aug. 13, after an illness of about 7 months. Mr. Evenson was born in Valders, Norway, Aug. 25, 1853, and came with his parents, brothers and sisters in 1855 from the old country to Dane county, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. At the age of 21 he went to Wauseca, where he resided until 1898, when he moved to this county. He bought a farm south of Starbuck and has since then made his home there. In 1880 he was married to Maria Bragger of Black Earth, Wis. Two children were born to them, Mrs. Clarence Swift of Wauseca, Minn., and Clara Isolina, who died in infancy. Mr. Evenson's first wife died in 1884. Two years later he was united in marriage to Rosina Remund of Wauseca. Four children were born to this union. Two of these survive their father. They are, Mrs. Henry Lindour of Breckenridge and Reuben E. Evenson of Starbuck. Mr. Evenson is also survived by his wife by a brother, Samuel Evenson of Cyrus, and four sisters, Mrs. Olson of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Burtman of Glencoe, Mrs. Lune of Mt. Horeb, Wis., and Mrs. Anderson of Blue Mounds, Wis. Mr. Evenson was an honorable upright citizen, a loving husband and father and is sadly missed by those are left to mourn his death. Funeral services were held by Rev. Dahle last Thurs., with interment at the cemetery (Fron Cemetery?)

  • Notes

    • As told to John Arenson by Richard Evenson, Hans' grandson. Hans took logs down the Mississippi to St. Louis to sell. It was very difficult and he was dragged under water many times. He got very sick and almost died. He had to use the money he got for selling the logs to pay for his health care. It left him broke.
