- apoplexy, old Holberg farm
Mount Horeb Progress Tues. July 19, 1892.
Hans Evenson Sagen, living a couple of miles northeast of Blue Mounds, on the old Holberg place, died very suddenly last Thursday, having not been feeling well for a few days. He was sitting on a box in the shade near the house, and when his wife came out to see to him he had fallen off the box and lay on the ground, and the only sign of life was the moving of his tongue. It was undoubtedly a stroke of appoplexy. Deceased was a native of Aardalen, Norway, came to this country in the early days, was an industrious and hard-working man until old age interfered. Mr. S. was 76 yrs. 11 mos. and 17 days old at the time of his death. His remains were interred at the cemetery at Blue Mounds last Saturday. He leaves an aged widow and a number of sons and daughters, located in different parts of the country, to mourn the sudden death of a loving husband and kind father.

Notes |
From book about Vermont Lutheran Church and the Town of Vermont's history, page 228
Hans Evenson was called "Hans ved Saga" (Hans with a saw), because he sawed lumber for the neighbors. He also built useful furniture. Mrs. Arne Mickelson (Thora) was very proud of a chest of drawers he built for her. The Valley of "Sagabottomen" was named for Hans Evenson's saw mill. [10]
